A trip to Dutton.
Left KSCK in the B-one with drop tank for quick and fuel hungry trip.
- Leaving Stockton, CA for Dutton, MT
Got altitude, swept the wings, and put the pedal to the metal.
- Reaching altitude
After losing exactly 500 lbs., I hit the release and got rid of the excess baggage.
- Drop Tank
Look Ma, I’m a high altitude Lawn Dart on steroids!
About 14 miles or so past Boise, Idaho, I lost my engines.
Quickly found a gravel strip about two or three miles away.
It was a US Forest Service runway. Idaho City U98.
I brought the wings forward as I lost speed and started a glide toward the runway
After checking the systems, I found out it was water in the fuel!
I should have known. I need to talk to those guys in Stockton.
Anyway, I kept the turbines running and tried multiple times to restart the engines.
The engines finally came back on after I lost about 10k feet.
So back on course, I regained my altitude.
I finally reached Dutton and brought her in as slow as I could.
- Finally there
It was a real tiny runway and my speed was still a bit fast.
I hope the farmer doesn’t mind a little bit of harvested corn.
