Added 500 lb drop tank from the MiG, got to 100,000 ft from ground launch at Bedrock. Made it to 120,000 ft from a B-52 drop at 190 kias, 40,000 ft, but at that altitude it didn't have enough elevator effectiveness left to keep the nose up and stay below mmo so I think 100,000 is about the limit without adding thrusters.

hmm... I wonder if VXL (prop) gets through the short-track. Something tells me it has a pitch authority deficiency to make the quad tight loop turn.

and I forget what the top speed on the VXL (prop) is, thought I think even if (over Vne) ~200-220-230... that still is a healthy saunter through the fast track.

aquila, I think you have an old copy of the short-track? (said seeing the asphalt course track). Funny seeing the 150 going through there.

If anyone can't tell that I love LFX/LJX, you'd be blind. I took a look at the night textures tonight, in the dark room at night, eyes adjusted.. it's awfully darn inviting. I had moved the camera into the back. I didn't see a convenient shot from back there, gorgeous but I just didn't get grabbed by an angle to get a shot.. so moving the cam back up to the cockpit.. I saw the coming through the barrier view, and then over to the far right side.

VXL (blowing off vne) tops out at 240 on the fast track (time was 7:46.44).

LFX does 340, time was 5:44.78.

No. (Tried.) Not enough pitch authority even for the "slalom" section, let alone the quad gate. Also, its wings are too wide to easily fit through some of the gates. C162 makes it through, 172 barely, PA-28-235 no, VXL no, x250TP yes if your reflexes are good enough, SR-2x haven't tried yet.

It's up to date, I just have a texture pack installed someplace that makes the gravel really dark.

what a hoot that would be to run the short track in the open-top Targawing. one flying, one hands up like a roller coaster ride.

that paint looks great Ralf. it reminds me of a german themed one on LJX in similar silver & green

oh the sweet spot and my weakness, the LJX, and look at those tip tanks. good job getting those fitted.

I like tip tanks. Too bad the GA operators phasing them out more and more, the Lear (23-)35 and the GII TT. Think of them when you open your next can of coke.

Yeah, tip tanks make just about any straight-winged plane look cooler… PA-24, Learjet, Gulfstream, F-104, etc. Mostly I wanted the added range though, taking it on a multi-leg flight from QSAF to the .org fly-in in Malta.

Dang Aquila, that is sharp.

Definitely, that is the prime value of tip tanks, range. I've read a few places that there is an offset to the range of the extra fuel that is eroded by the extra surface area drag (and weight). Also that with heavy fuel so far outboard makes for roll control concerns. the LJ25 is definitely eye opening about that. I think, that if the speed is moderate for range, that the tip tanks are stylish and functional and a very reasonable option to a design. I believe in let the aircraft owner/pilot decide if they feel the need for just that much extra fuel. In reality, I'd like to see modular tip tanks, or a modular belly aux tank.
