On a quest for some new shoes, I needed to travel around the state....

5U1 - KHLN - KBIL - 5U1 ; AADX LFX IX

getting on course and getting into climb posture up to about 11.5 for the brief trip to Helena (course 173)

smiles, looking down and reviewing the cruise setup

flap-2, athr 90, turning in over south Helena.

flap-2, spoiler speedbrakes armed, athr 80. established, go for landing, gear coming down....

the pilot sight picture of a golden approach. watching that first left taxiway off position and planning for a short arrival and touchdown at the line....

at C74 APC FBO, Helena MT. I grab a courtesy car and heads out....

not finding what I was looking for. figured while out i'd head down to Billings for the best results. the view of a shallow upwind climb over North Helena.

because of the distance, getting up into a high power climb up to 17.5 for SE towards Billings. Looking out over Helena

yada yada yada <insert boring overland transit time>.
Arriving Billings Intl (KBIL), winds generally calm, 5kt left rear quartering, and directed to join the approach for straight in to the right short ga runway.

a personal signature move for gear-up, flap-down, extended centerline approach.
makes for gear down it's own deliberate pre-landing actuation.

heh's, not there either, but I could say that I might have hit the Olive Garden while out looking, for my troubles. After an extended taxi from the FBO back over to the SE facing right runway, nearly the opposite side of the field. takeoff, extended upwind and right turnout over the city

smiles. the wide shot.... what a nice view.

establishing on course direct 5U1, up to 16.5 for the trip overall

diving in on 5U1. I got a bit close before dropping off the cruise altitude. prop high, auto-speed pitch descent at ~200 with high drag prop.

coming in from the east. right pattern joining on base to final. looking for the final approach segment and considering the.... 18kt direct crosswind into a runway the size of a ... driveway.

setup. athr 80. flap full, spoilers armed, high crab angle, noting the windsock.... prepared for a @#$% go-around.

coming in... yeah.

....eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.... kickout! kick out!! :D
