Grand Theft Auto V Released
Posted by Kirsty at 19:54. Category: General
Yes, the day has finally come!
Whether you've been playing since midnight or still waiting for your copy, September 17th has arrived around the world and GTAV is now available.
It's been a long journey since GTA IV, with mixed emotions of excitement, anticipation and sometimes frustration, but we can't thank you enough for joining us along the way and supporting the GTA Network, and that goes for you too, Rockstar.
BUT, this is not a goodbye speech, there is still PLENTY more to come from us. No one can deny the depth of GTAV, and as every fan gets their hands on their copy and dives into the world of Los Santos and Blaine County, there's a wealth of information to learn and experiences to have, and we've still got GTA Online to come in around 2 weeks time!
If you've got any questions or something to discuss (if you can pry yourself away from the game, that is) we've opened up some additional subforums over on GTAForums, where you can get mission help, cheats and report any bugs. Rest assured that there will also be plenty of indepth info and guides published on GTAV.net very shortly!
In the mean time:
Social Club - GTAV features have now been released on the Social Club, with stat pages and checklists, as well as the Snapmatic app where you view photos taken using the in-game phones. As of right now, it's running a little slow and some features appear to be unavailable, but that's expected with the huge demand and I'm sure that'll be fixed soon.
GTA V Manual - you may have noticed the manual in your game case is not quite as 'full' as previous games, well that's because Rockstar have decided to go digital due to the sheer size of the GTAV world! A 100+ page manual is now available as an app on iOS devices. Android and PC/Mac are coming soon.
Have a great V day!
AADX wrote:It is here, I have it. some may not believe that as I have tracked this since at/prior to the first trailer two years ago, that my preordered and fully paid copy, I didn't pick up until today. two days after release. Carver had a vet appointment yesterday which I waited 1 day to get GTAV to go in on his vet appt day, but that got rescheduled to today, so my GTAV became +2 days. I got the Bradygames guide book, but at 428 pages, it's beyond any mere book.
upon arriving home and un-bagging it, sniffed even the still plastic wrapped GTAV, ... it smells like pure happiness.
Brace yourselves, upon putting it in, first thing, is an 8.5GB installation. ... soooh anxious already.
The Music of Grand Theft Auto V: Three Volume Digital Album Now Available on iTunes
Posted 4 hours, 29 minutes ago | Author: R* Q | Filed Under: Games, Music
Today we're pleased to announce that The Music of Grand Theft Auto V, a trio of distinct albums from Grand Theft Auto V, are available on iTunes for $9.99 each or as a full compilation for $24.99.
Volume 1: Original Music
The first volume of this compilation is a collection of brand new music from a wide array of artists including Wavves, Twin Shadow and Tyler, The Creator - along with The Chain Gang of 1974's "Sleepwalking", which was featured in the game's Official Trailer.
Volume 2: The Score
GTAV is the first entry in the series to feature a dynamic original score composed and engineered to be completely responsive to the player’s actions within both missions and open world gameplay. The score was composed in a one-time collaboration between a team of legendary producers and composers including vanguard German electronic band Tangerine Dream, Woody Jackson (Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire) and renowned hip-hop producers The Alchemist and Oh No. For The Music of Grand Theft Auto V: Volume 2, the stems of the game’s interactive score are layered, mixed and arranged into an album of songs by acclaimed producer and DJ, DJ Shadow.
Volume 3: The Soundtrack
The collection of music in GTAV is the biggest and most ambitious in the history of the series. Volume 3 features select songs from across the game's unique in-game radio stations. Snippets from all 17 in-game radio stations are also now available for your listening pleasure on the Music page on the GTAV official site. Featuring tracks by Bootsy Collins, Flying Lotus, Bob Seger, Jai Paul, Toro y Moi, Waylon Jennings and more.

More details on GTA Online!
Posted by Azazel at 20:54. Category: General
While everyone's busy exploring and enjoying the game, R* provided us with some interesting tidbits on the much anticipated Grand Theft Auto Online, out by October 1st. Here's what they had to say:
Grand Theft Auto Online is going to be something brand new for us: a fully realized and living world for multiple players that will continue to grow and take shape over time.
The ultimate shape of GTA Online will be determined as much by you, the player, as by the work we put in. What you like and don't like, what you play and what you want will determine how the game develops and what it turns into.
Everything we do will be informed by feedback from you all - from the types of missions that roll out to all kinds of future content.
We are planning for a constant stream of new content, tweaks and updates in the weeks and months ahead.
The first couple of weeks we expect to be heavily focused on tuning the experience as it goes from internal testing to the reality of being played by tons of people in the real world so that all the usual teething problems for an online game are overcome. We hope it will all run incredibly smoothly, but please bear with us if it doesn't, and help us fix any and all problems!
After that, we will begin releasing content updates and giving you the opportunity to make your own content.
R* also encourages everyone to report any feedback, opinions and thoughts on GTAO come October 1st to tune and finesse the game. Make sure to check their newswire post to find out where to contact R* for your feedback.
The Launch of Grand Theft Auto Online:
From launch, up to 16 players can enter the world together to partake in everything from Open-World Crime and Chaos, Jobs, Races, Sports, Customization, Reputation and Cash Flow and of course Growing Pains - crashes and bugs. Again check out R*'s newswire to read about all of the features in detail.
Lastly, R* have several content updates planned to be released a few weeks after GTA Online, which include [but not limited to]:
The Content Creator: The Content Creator will launch with tools to tailor and publish your own Deathmatches & Races.
The Beach Bum Pack: Featuring 4 new amazing beach fun vehicles, over 300 new items of incredible down tempo leisure wear and 2 new but not remotely relaxing weapons.
Capture the Flag: GTA Online's take on the classic CTF mode including the ability to make your own using The Content Creator.
Heists: This update will introduce full-on cooperative Heist missions that will require careful planning, teamwork and sharp execution - along with the Heist Planning Board for your apartment.
The GQ&A: ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ Actors Talk Franklin, Michael, and Crazy Trevor
BY Scott Neumyer
During GQ.com’s recent chat with the stars of Grand Theft Auto V, they all agreed on one thing: they’re actors and not “just voice actors.” For better or worse, Shawn “Solo” Fonteno, Ned Luke, and Steven Ogg are Franklin, Michael, and Trevor, the characters they play in this smash-hit installment. They didn’t just spend time sitting in a recording booth talking into a microphone. Rather, over a three-year period they became their characters, lived and breathed in their skin, and through extensive motion capture, real-life interaction, and lengthy voice acting sessions in that very booth, Fonteno, Luke, and Ogg crafted performances that bring little bits of data to stunningly realistic video game life.
“Solo” Fonteno might tell you that he is Franklin and Franklin is him, but if you see these guys on the street, Ned Luke really isn’t Michael, and Steven Ogg isn’t, in fact, crazy Trevor. As great as their performances are in GTAV, it’s still all just an act.
They’re also one of the main reasons that the blockbuster video game is quite possibly the greatest ever created and, without a doubt, the absolute best to ever grace the current console generation.
We sat down with Fonteno, Luke, and Ogg to hear what exactly went into crafting the world’s most famous trio since Chris Bosh, Dwayne Wade, and LeBron James.
···
GQ: This game is an enormous hit. What does hearing something like $1 billion in sales mean to you?
Shawn Fonteno (Franklin): A billion dollars, dude? I don’t even know how many zeros are in a billion dollars, man. [Laughs] Just to be tied to it with my likeness and my voice, that’s something that’ll go down in history with me. My grandchildren and my great grandchildren will see that. It’s like a historical moment for me, so it’s a good feeling.
Steven Ogg (Trevor): Yeah, it’s pretty wild. I’m not a gamer and I’m not into that world, so I don’t know much about it. Obviously, doing it for three years I got to learn more about it, and I understand how huge it could be, but honestly it wasn’t until the release that I really got it. Even before the financial end of it, which I can’t grasp, seeing trucks in Tokyo with my face on them or the billboards in Brooklyn that were being hand-painted with Trevor’s face. That’s when the magnitude of this game started to sink in. It is a global thing.
GQ: Ned, your son is eleven years old. Did he flip out when you told him you were going to be in Grand Theft Auto V?
Ned Luke (Michael): He’s not going to play the game until he’s in college. [Laughs]
GQ: But I’m sure he’s heard of it. He knows it’s a big deal.
Ned Luke (Michael): Yeah, he knows it. All his buddies have it. I let him do a few missions with the sound off. [Laughs] But, yeah, he’s so thrilled. He thinks it’s the coolest thing ever.
GQ: Steven, what about your son?
Steven Ogg (Trevor): No, no. We’ve got copies of it and he wants to play it, but he’s just too young. The funny thing is, I’m from western Canada and my nephew is old enough to play it and he now has street cred. I’m like, “Really? Street cred in Alberta? What the fuck is that? What does that get you? A great Alberta Beef Burger or a twelve pack of maple donuts?” [Laughs]
GQ: Shawn, in your TMZ interview you mentioned that Franklin is you and you are Franklin. How do you guys relate to each other?
Shawn Fonteno (Franklin): [Laughs] We relate tremendously, man. I feel like changing my name to Franklin. Everything he’s doing, I’ve done it. I don’t want to put myself out there on blast, but I’ve done it. I’m an ex-gang member. I’m an ex-thief. I’m an ex-car stealer. I’ve done it. I know what it feels like to be on both sides of the gun, go to jail, et cetera. We’re tied together forever.
GQ: What about you, Steven? You’re not crazy, right? You’re not totally Trevor, are you?
Steven Ogg (Trevor): I like to call it a crazy little thing called… acting. [Laughs] It’s one of those forgotten arts in this culture. There’s a lot of talk nowadays about how “acting is you, you are who you are” but no, it’s acting. That’s my job. That’s what I do for a living. I’m an actor. [Laughs]
GQ: Were there any concerns about working on game that’s gotten some criticism about its violence and treatment of women?
Shawn Fonteno (Franklin): Nah, not at all. It has to be treated the same way as the movies. Scarface. Boardwalk Empire. You see all the same stuff that’s happening in these games in comic books and TV shows. It’s just a script. We’re having fun. They have to treat this the same as they treat the movies.
Ned Luke (Michael): GTA is what it is. Anybody that expects anything different is fooling themselves. I love women. I’m crazy about them. I have a beautiful wife, who’s the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me, and I teach my son to respect women and other people’s position in the world, whatever it is.…People are always looking for something to hate on. If this is something for them to target and hate on, that’s their thing. I look at it as satire.
GQ: Is there a stigma attached when you do voice work for video games versus film or TV work?
Steven Ogg (Trevor): I want to take “voice acting” and send it up to space.…this was a motion capture performance. This was not me sitting in my underwear in a booth watching some character that was like Trevor and saying my lines. No. That was me up there in my motion capture suit with the camera directly in my face and the light in my eyes. It’s a huge thing. It’s not just voice acting. You put three years of your life into something like this and you certainly, if nothing else, want the recognition of what you’ve done—it is an entire performance that has been “captured”—your body, your face, and your voice. It wasn’t just three years of talking into a microphone. It was three years of shooting a movie that was motion captured.
Shawn Fonteno (Franklin): It was totally different. Acting in front of the camera for film is totally different from acting in a big studio where you don’t where something is at and you have to imagine that it’s right there. You have to figure it out while they’re building stuff that looks like stuff, so it’s a totally different thing. You have to feel and visualize everything that you’re acting. It’s night and day.
Ned Luke (Michael): Yeah, we’re actors. We’re not just “voice actors”. Steven Ogg is one of the most brilliant actors I’ve ever seen in my life.…For me, acting is acting. I don’t care if you’re just doing voice or live action or motion capture or what. Acting is acting.
GQ: Have you gotten a chance to play the game yourselves yet?
Shawn Fonteno (Franklin): Honestly, I just sat back and was tripping off of what was going on with the sales and how it was radiating through the pop culture and everywhere around the globe first. Then I finally sat down and started playing it, so now I’m halfway through it. It’s so interesting that I can’t put it down. It’ll be three in the morning and my wife is telling me to put it down. [Laughs] It’s so addictive.
Steven Ogg (Trevor): That’s actually a special little anecdote. When we were trying to put in GTAV, much less play it, we put it in the Xbox 360 and I was like, “Oh, this is such a beautiful moment.” There we are, my son and I, sitting there and we can’t figure out this fucking thing. [Laughs]
Okay, we’ve got 2.7 gigabytes, gigabang, gigawhatever. [Steven slips into full on Trevor mode] What the fuck is this?! Okay there’s two discs. Put this one in first. Okay. What the fuck? Where to load it? I don’t know. Load it onto here. Manage storage. Fuck! I just want to see the opening. I’m going to cover his face and ears if it starts with Trevor jumping on a skull screaming, “Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!”—he’s not going to hear that…but he’s so excited, he just wants to see the opening (or anything).
So I pick up the Bat phone and I call Rod [Edge - the director]. We FaceTime so he can help me figure this out. It was such a great scene. I’m in the country house with my son and we’re FaceTime-ing with the director of the game and his son, who’s an actual gamer, and we’re getting instruction on how to start the game. I’d show him the screen and he’d walk me through it. It was such a beautiful moment. [Laughs]
GQ: Do you think the success of the game will lead to more TV and film work for you?
Ned Luke (Michael): I hope so. [Laughs] I think that’s the goal of everything you do. Stanislavski said, “Love art in yourself, and not yourself in art,” and for me, that’s what acting is. It’s the only thing I want to do. I love it. I’ve been in this game for thirty years and nobody knows who I am. You have really hard times and you have really good years and you have years that you can’t feed your family and you have to sell cars. I gotta tell you, stealing cars is a hell of a lot more fun than selling them! [Laughs]
GQ: How has your life changed since the game’s release?
Shawn Fonteno (Franklin): [Laughs] I’m turning into a star, man! People are reaching out to me and are really appreciative of what I gave to the game. I feel good that I can make people happy with what they see in Franklin. I’m getting a lot of compliments and I’m loving it.
Ned Luke (Michael): This has reawakened my imagination like nothing I’ve ever done before. Doing this game has made me a better actor than I ever was. You’ve got to understand, I was a bitter dude coming off four years of being out of the business. I went back to my hometown so my son could experience where I came from. You’re at my age and you don’t have a series or good representation, and then to come out and get into this? You better believe I’m recharged.
GQ: Steven, is it harder or easier to play someone completely off the rails like Trevor?
Steven Ogg (Trevor): It’s certainly fun because you just get to be nuts. The thing about Trevor, this character that I so love to play, is that he kind of represents the gaming world and this idea of pure escapism. He gets to be that guy who gets to say whatever he wants, to do whatever he wants, to fuck whatever he wants. Everyone has that fantasy, right? Trevor just does it. It’s very liberating. So, to play that, you basically have an impulse, you feel it, and you try it. There’s someone there to help you with when to pull back or let you know what doesn’t work, but it’s very freeing. I also love that people are recognizing his sense of humor. That was Trevor for me. Walk that line. Bring in the fucking intensity. Bring in the violence. But also, through that, find a sense of humor and allow people to laugh at it. When you do that, it sends that message that you’re not taking yourself too seriously. It’s a little wink. Three years of getting to do that? Yes, please!
GQ: In that same vein, Ned, did you feel like you had a lot more creative freedom and input working on GTAV as opposed to the film and TV work you’ve done?
Ned Luke (Michael): That might be the thing I’m most proud of on this deal—I was given so much freedom to become the guy. That’s a testament to all the guys that worked on the game. They’re so confident and have so little ego about what they’re doing. They want the game to be the best that it can be, same as me. It was the most fun I’ve ever had. It was like going back to acting class, being able to be so free and not locked in. I’m just thankful for the faith and trust they had in me to do it. And that I didn’t overdo it and piss them off and have them fire me. [Laughs]

GTA Online: Hands On Preview
Posted by Andy at 20:04. Category: General
Rockstar Games invited GTANet and other Grand Theft Auto fansites to New York City last week to experience Grand Theft Auto Online firsthand. The event took place at the Hotel on Rivington in Manhattan's Lower East Side neighbourhood. (This is the same venue where we had our first look at GTAIV in 2008.)
As pretty much everyone knows, GTA Online launches tomorrow (October 1st). Access is free for anyone with a copy of Grand Theft Auto V.
Grand Theft Auto Online Ain't Just GTA V Multiplayer
The Rockstar team made it very clear to us that GTA Online is not just a 'multiplayer mode' for Grand Theft Auto V - it's an entirely standalone experience.
Yes, you can access Online through the character select wheel in V, and yes, GTA Online takes place in Los Santos & Blaine County. But once you get into the thick of things, e.g. tackling missions with your friends or gunning through deathmatch-style competitions, it feels like that familiar GTAV setting is intended to act as a set of training wheels to get you off to a quick start.
Learning From The Past
Rockstar's previous multiplayer efforts from Grand Theft Auto IV, Red Dead Redemption, and Max Payne 3 have been melded and refined for GTA Online.
Fans of RDR's free-roam 'lobby' will be right at home in GTAO. The entirety of Los Santos & Blaine County is open for exploration. (Sadly we were unable to find any wildlife to mow down n' skin!) Max Payne's multiplayer gunplay comes through in deathmatch combat. And what would GTA be without the racing? Bicycles, cars, motorcycles - it's all there, taking you through the city and countryside beyond.
Character Creation: Min-Max To Your Heart's Content
The character creation tool goes into a crazy amount of detail: Your appearance is based on choosing maternal and paternal grandparents, and your base stats are dependent on a 24-hour schedule in which you allocate hours of your day to different activities. There are pros and cons to every choice, and we won't be surprised when some players start fussing over creating the 'perfect' set of stats.
No Such Thing As A Free Ride
Money is the lifeblood of Grand Theft Auto Online. You need cash. Lots of cash. There are plenty of ways to get it -- completing missions, mainly, but also through other activities like robbing stores -- and plenty of ways to spend it.
Vehicle upgrades. Weapons & ammunition. Property purchases! We found ourselves blowing through funds pretty damn quickly. It was frustrating, but it made sense. In the world of GTA Online, we were just getting started. Of course we weren't sitting on a fortune! If you want to make mad stacks of cash, you need to put the time and effort into it first.
Ranking Up: RP & JP
Completing missions and other activities earn you RP (Reputation Points). Accumulating RP allows you to rank up (level up), unlocking additional features and content - e.g. new activities, new weapons, clothing, tattoos, and other goodies become available to you.
We noticed another point system after successfully completing missions: JP. We don't know the details on how JP will be used in GTAO, but from what we've experienced in other games, we suspect that these may be an additional type of stat -- i.e. 'Job Points' -- that will come in use for special activities like heists. (Keep in mind that this is just a theory on our part!)
Tackling Missions? Bring Your Friends!
Even with a crew of players communicating over voice, running-and-gunning isn't enough. These missions are hard. You have limited lives and you need to use your head if you want to complete missions efficiently. Strategize, try different tactics, assign roles and responsibilities.
For example: In a few missions we assigned one person as the driver, and the passenger as the navigator. This kept our driver focused on the action while the navigator took care of plotting out waypoints. This 'shared navigation' feature between driver and passenger was a massive help.
A Brave New World
We tend to think of Rockstar titles as blockbuster entertainment pieces, with massive budgets and massive expectations. The games are developed over a period of years, polished to a shine, and released to much fanfare.
There may be some DLC afterwards, but for the most part, whatever was in the game at launch is what you're still playing years down the road.
GTA Online is different. It's a persistent world, one that will be evolving and improving over time. This is a massive undertaking for Rockstar, unlike anything they've done before.
We'll All Help Shape Grand Theft Auto Online
This is the first time that Rockstar is releasing something that's a work in progress, and we'll need to keep that in mind through these first few months of GTA Online.
As mentioned in our coverage last week, Rockstar will be actively looking for community feedback, from the casual players to the most diehard of fans, to make GTA Online kick as much ass as humanly possible.
The ultimate shape of GTA Online will be determined as much by you, the player, as by the work we put in. What you like and don't like, what you play and what you want will determine how the game develops and what it turns into.

Grand Theft Auto Online Launch Updates
Posted 40 minutes ago | Author: R* Q | Filed Under: Games, Social Club
Thank you everyone for continuing to bear with us since yesterday’s initial roll out of Grand Theft Auto Online – we’re aware that a variety of technical difficulties have made it difficult to get access and that the experience has been a bit less than smooth for many of you who jumped in straight away, so here are a few updates as of this afternoon to keep you all apprised.
At the Rockstar Games Support site, there is a dedicated article listing out the most common technical issues being reported. Things are changing and developing frequently but here are some latest updates as of this afternoon:
For PlayStation 3 users, a PlayStation Network server issue was detected that was limiting the amount of possible concurrent users. This was preventing most players from accessing GTA Online altogether and as of this morning, that problem was resolved.
There is an issue that is preventing some players from getting through the first tutorial mission across both platforms. Many players have been able to get through this with repeated retries, and we are working on unblocking this for everyone as soon as possible.
This morning, we experienced some instability across the GTA Online services which is affecting even people who have progressed beyond the tutorial mission. We are identifying these issues now and are working to restore stability for users as soon as possible.
For the time being and until we have been able to get everybody access to GTA Online and things are running smoothly, we have disabled the option of purchasable GTA$ cash packs. Players can however keep on earning GTA$ by pulling off Jobs and other profitable gameplay activities rather than purchasing cash packs.
You can keep updated on these and other common issues by subscribing to the GTA Online Launch Status Rockstar Support article at http://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en- ... t-Updates-. Subscribers will be sent an automatic notification as updates happen.
All of these initial technical issues will be ironed out as soon as we can. Please know that the entire team here at Rockstar and all of our relevant partners are and will continue to be working around the clock to get the experience to be as smooth as possible, as soon as possible.
In the meantime, for anyone experiencing technical problems, we encourage you to report them to our dedicated Support Team at Support.RockstarGames.com and at twitter.com/RockstarSupport. This is the best place to get direct technical help and we are constantly looking at the most commonly reported issues there to resolve.
For those of you who have been getting into and playing GTA Online, we also encourage you to please share your gameplay experience feedback with us at GTAOnline@rockstargames.com so that we may know what aspects you’re liking and disliking to help guide how the game will grow and evolve past this initial period.
Thanks again everyone for your patience and your support – we will continue to keep you updated.
GTA Online: New Title Update Available Today and More
October 04, 2013 8:31PM | Author: R* Q
A new GTAV title update to address issues in GTA Online is now available for PlayStation 3. We're currently working with Microsoft to get this update published for Xbox 360 as soon as possible - we expect it to be live by sometime overnight. This title update addresses a number of issues that GTA Online players have been experiencing in the initial days of launch this week, including:
Fix to address the issue where players were stuck launching a session before the Mall or Nothing race in the online tutorial.
Fix to address an issue where bank & cash were deleted incorrectly in some cases.
Fix to address incorrect amounts of cash being dropped when the player dies in Missions and Last Team Standing.
Fixes an issue where the Character Switch Wheel would disappear after a failed load.
Fixes an issue where attempting to enter GTA Online via the Character Switch Wheel caused a black screen.
Fixes an issue where temporary characters were overwriting main characters.
Fixes an issue where players were losing apartments and the money they spent on them.
Fixes an issue that caused Story Mode missions to be missed in some instances.
Removes the autosave that occurred when transitioning into GTA Online from within GTAV Story Mode to prevent the chance of Story Mode saves becoming corrupted.
Several tweaks to GTA Online including improving overall stability.
Also today, we’ve launched the suite of GTA Online features at the Rockstar Games Social Club website including GTA Online player stats, ability to browse, rate and bookmark Jobs to add to your in-game queue to play, Job Playlists and updated Crew pages – as well as the GTA Online Guide which is a growing collection of tips and tutorials we’ll be updating frequently. Stay tuned for more GTA Online Social Club features that we’ll be creating and launching regularly in the weeks and months ahead.
You can also check out the newly updated http://www.rockstargames.com/GTAOnline for an overview of everything from the types of dangerous yet profitable Jobs to pull off to competitive and structured game modes to play and much more. Keep in mind of course that as an ever-growing, persistent and dynamic experience, this is just the start for what you will be able to do in Grand Theft Auto Online long term.
Should you continue to experience any other technical problems with GTA Online, please report your issues at the Rockstar Support website where you can subscribe to the GTA Online Launch Status Rockstar Support article or to specific other Support item tickets for automatic updates. You can also report your issues to Rockstar Support on Twitter. Additionally, if you have any constructive gameplay feedback you'd like to share with us, please send it to our GTAOnline@rockstargames.com address where we're actively looking at what you're enjoying in the game so far, along with any suggestions you have for improving the experience.
